Red V-Raptor [X] Z Mount and Komodo-X Z Mount cinema cameras are compatible with the Nikon Z mount

Red and Nikon’s power play!

Red Digital Cinema, a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, has launched the V-Raptor [X] Z Mount and Komodo-X Z Mount cameras, kicking off the new Z Cinema series. This line is built for high-end filmmaking, production, and content creation. These are the first Red cameras to use Nikon’s Z mount, which is known for its large diameter and short flange distance, giving filmmakers loads of lens options.

The V-Raptor [X] Z Mount brings Nikon’s Z mount to one of Red’s most powerful cinema cameras, renowned for its 8K VV global shutter large-format sensor, low-light performance, dynamic range, and high frame rates. With Extended Highlights mode, the V-RAPTOR [X] Z Mount captures 20+ stops of dynamic range.

Meanwhile, the Komodo-X Z Mount features a 6K Super 35 global shutter sensor in a compact form factor. It supports 6K recording at up to 80 fps and 4K at up to 120 fps, all while leveraging Red’s advanced colour science for cinema-quality visuals. With R3D Redcode RAW format onboard, editing is efficient and grading flexibility is unmatched.

With the V-Raptor [X] Z Mount and Komodo-X Z Mount, you can also use Nikkor Z lenses for

sharp shots with minimal distortion. If you’ve got a collection of Nikkor F lenses—including those classic vintage ones—you’re in luck. Just pair them with the Mount Adapter FTZ II, and you’re good to go.

Both cameras also support power zoom control on the new Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ and come with improved autofocus performance. The Red Z to PL Adapter Pack and Red Z to PL with Electronic ND Adapter Pack let you use PL-mount lenses with both cameras, giving you even more creative freedom.
